National calls are defined to be any calls to a location outside a 50km radius of the University campus (originating caller). In Durban, this is taken as 50km from the Howard College campus as all Durban calls (including Edgewood) are routed through Howard College exchanges. In Pietermaritzburg, the centre is taken as the Pelham exchange.

National calls are currently routed via Telkom and are billed at the standard Telkom rates. Telkom charges per second for local calls with a minimum charge.

Standard and Callmore Times

Telkom has a Standard Time Rate for the weekday hours between 07:00 and 19:00 and a reduced Callmore Time Rate for weekends, public holidays and weekdays between 19:00 and 07:00.
